Victron MultiPlus 48/500/6-16 230V VE.Bus
The Multiplus is a powerful pure sine wave inverter, an advanced battery charger using adaptive charging technology, and a high speed AC transfer switch in a single compact package. Aside from these primary functions, the MultiPlus offers several advanced features, which are explained below.
Two AC outputsThe main output ensures uninterrupted operation. In the event of a mains failure or interruption of shore/generator power, the MultiPlus takes over the supply of the connected loads. The switchover is so fast (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is guaranteed. The second output only supplies power when AC power is available at the MultiPlus input. Loads that must not drain the battery, such as a water heater, can be connected to this output (a second output is available on models rated at 3 kVA and above).
Virtually unlimited power through parallel connectionUp to six Multis can be connected in parallel if high power requirements are required. Six 24/3000/70 devices, for example, deliver 15 kW / 18 kVA output power with 420 amps charging capacity.
Three phase operationApart from the parallel connection, three devices can also be configured for a three-phase output. But that's not all: with three strings of six devices each connected in parallel, a 45 kW / 54 kVA three-phase inverter and a 1260 A charger can be built.
Split phase optionsTwo units can be connected together to provide 120-0-120V. Additional units can be connected in parallel - up to 6 units per phase - to provide up to 30kW / 36kVA of split phase power. Alternatively, a split phase AC source can be created by connecting our autotransformer (see also datasheet at www.victronenergy.com) to a 'European' inverter programmed to provide 240V / 60Hz.
PowerControl – Working with limited generator power, limited shore or mains powerThe MultiPlus is a very powerful battery charger. It therefore draws a lot of power from the generator or shore power supply (almost 20 A per 3 kVA MultiPlus at 120 VAC). The Multi Control remote control panel can be used to set the maximum mains or generator current to be drawn. The MultiPlus then takes other connected AC consumers into account and only uses the power that is "left over" for charging. This prevents the generator or shore power connection from being overloaded.
PowerAssist – “performance enhancement” of generators and shore connection supportThis function gives the PowerControl principle a new dimension. It enables the MultiPlus to support alternative sources that are under-powered. Load peaks often only occur for a limited period of time. In such a case, the MultiPlus ensures that insufficient shore power or generator power is immediately compensated for by energy from the battery. If the load is reduced, the "excess" energy can be used to charge the batteries.
Four-stage adaptive charger and dual battery chargingThe main output provides powerful charging of the battery system using advanced 'adaptive charging' software. The software fine-tunes the automatic three-stage charging process to best suit the battery condition and adds a fourth stage for long periods in float mode. The adaptive charging process is described in more detail in the Phoenix charger datasheet and on our website under 'Technical Information'. The MultiPlus also charges a second battery using an independent float charge output designed for a prime mover or generator starter battery.
System configuration easier than everAfter installation, the MultiPlus is ready for use. If settings need to be changed, this can be done in a few minutes using a DIP switch setting procedure. Even parallel connection or three-phase operation can be programmed using the DIP switches: no computer is needed! Alternatively, VE.Net can be used instead of the DIP switches. There is also sophisticated software (VE.Bus Quick Configuration and VE.Bus System Configuration) available to configure some new, advanced features.
